Catch Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, & other species

Welcome to Utila, Honduras! The fisheries here are salt flats at their finest! Anglers can cover huge flats chasing bonefish, permit, tarpon, and other species while experiencing solitude in this beautiful Caribbean island. Utila is the Alaska of the Caribbean: big wild fish and way less presence of humanity than most other salt destinations. We have taken our years of experience of guiding across the world and are working with local Utilan’s to bring a truly incredible salt experience for our guests. Just like our Alaskan trips these trips are private and can be customized to single anglers, couples, buddies/friends, or larger groups. We offer everything from inclusive week long packages to single or multiple day trips based upon our guests wants and needs.

Tarpon

Juvenile Tarpon are present all season long in Utila. Larger Tarpon are also caught here but most are juvies and are very eager to chase flies. We have had success both in the smaller bays/mangroves as well as sight fishing to them in the flats. Just like all species found in Utila, our tarpon see very few anglers each season and will attack flies so hard it often can startle our guests!

Permit

Let’s be honest, permit are a*#holes, everywhere! Those big eyes, powerful bodies, and discerning tastes are why we love to chase these fish! You may or may not land one but you will have lots of incredible shots here! The permit, just like all our fish are generally “happy” fish cruising after prey with their beautiful tail glistening in the surface! The permit here can be true monsters, some over 30 pounds! Though most are way more user friendly in size and willingness to grab a fly.

Bonefish

The bonefish in Utila are plentiful and very willing to take a fly. Unlike most Caribbean destinations where tides, moon phase, and angling pressure can dictate fishing for bones. In Utila the bones are just here and almost always looking for their next meal! Due to the numbers here bones are almost always found and willing to run you down into your backing again and again!

Additional species….

In addition to bones, tarpon, and permit anglers on Utila can catch many other species, after all it’s the ocean and you never know what may grab on to the line! While on the flats you will have shots at multiple species of Triggers, a very underrated flats fish that is discerning and pulls like a freight train! Jacks of different sizes and species are found across the waters of Utila. In the mangroves while chasing tarpon guests will have shots at snook and snapper. Barracuda from small to large also call Utila home. We are also currently working on getting sail fish on the fly here…

Pricing and accommodations

We offer a variety of options for our guests fishing with us. From single days on the flats, to week long inclusive packages, and everything in between we have you covered for your trip to Utila. Our local staff calls Utila home year round and we can help you navigate this island paradise from staying in our lodge to arranging for other accommodations for several days or weeks. On fishing days breakfast and lunch are included as are cold drinks. Dinners are out on the town as the food scene in Utila is amazing! 6 days 7 nights in the lodge are $3,500 double occupancy, $5,000 single occupancy, and single days guided are $550.
